That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. Psalm 67:2
The Nations Exhorted to Praise God
The simple expression of praise looks forward to a time when all peoples will know and praise the Lord. The psalmist builds on the famous “priestly blessing” of Numbers 6:24-26 (67:1). He asks that all God’s people might continually praise Him and that God might continue to pour out His blessings on them. Psalm 67 is a psalm of praise, serves as a marvelous invocation and doxology in worship. The poem calls the nations of the world to praise God, to join Israel in honoring the Creator.
“Face shine” (67:1). The image symbolizes favor; looking at someone approvingly.
“The peoples” (67:2-5). The “peoples” seems to indicate other nations. Verse 2 explains: The psalmist is eager for the blessings of salvation to be experienced by all.
67:1, 2 cause His face to shine: In the language of Aaronic benediction (Num. 6:24-26), the psalm calls for God to smile on his people. From the blessing, God had intended to bring blessing to all nations, in fulfillment of the provisions of the Abrahamic covenant (Gen. 12:3). This passage anticipates the thrust of the world mission that is found in the NT (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). The point in this psalm is clear: May God bless His people Israel in such a manner that the message of God’s way would become known throughout the earth.
1 God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. 2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
67:3, 4 Let the people praise You: God’s desire is for all people to praise Him, for He is their Creator and their Provider (2 Pet. 3:9). This should also be the desire of God’s people.
3 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. 4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
67:5-7 yield her increase: As in the prophetic aspects of Ps. 65, the coming of God’s kingdom on earth will be marked by a magnificent increase in production. The curse on the land (Gen. 3:17-19; Rom 8:22) will be lifted in “the year of God’s goodness” (65:11).
Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. 6 Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. 7 God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
** Another prophetic psalm about what will happen in the end. The joy of growing plants and harvesting fruit from them, the joy of receiving saving health and seeing the glory of God with our own eyes after having known Him are all for us to have at the end. So, no more despair.
67 1 God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. 2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. 3 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. 4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern [1] the nations upon earth. Selah. 5 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. 6 Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. 7 God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
