Isaiah 62:  Zion’s New Name

You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, Nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; For the Lord delights in you, And your land shall be married. 62:4

Zion will not be called “forsaken” anymore.

As a bride takes the name of her husband, so Zion, the holy city, will take a new name to reflect her consummated union with the Lord.  God will establish Jerusalem as the praise of the earth, when the savior comes to claim the city as his reward.

Hephzibah – My delight is in her.

Beulah – Married.

8  The Lord has sworn by His right hand And by the arm of His strength: “Surely I will no longer give your grain As food for your enemies; And the sons of the foreigner shall not drink your new wine, For which you have labored.

12  And they shall call them The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord; And you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.
