Jeremiah 5 What will You do in the end?
Like cages full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; they have become rich and powerful and have grown fat and sleek. Their evil deeds have no limit; they do not seek Justice.
They do not promote the case of the fatherless; they do not defend the just cause of the poor. Should I not punish them for this? declares the Lord. Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?
A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land; The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it that way. But what will you do in the end?
My God. You’re angry. I want to listen.
I can point my finger at politicians, leaders in general, non-Christians etc. for their selfishness and failure to defend the cause of the poor/minorities.
But the responsibility lies with each of us especially Christians who get to read the words of God. I should ask myself. Other than working hard to preserve and enrich myself, what have I done?
God empowers us individually. There are many people who quietly carries out the cause of God — feeding the hungry and speaking against injustice while risking harm to themselves. I just need to respond and show up for work.
Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem… If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city. Jeremiah 5:1
