Paul expresses his deep desire for the salvation of his own people and states the reason for Israel’s rejection. It was due to their lack of knowledge that could be obtained from the Scripture, the word of Christ.
… they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. For not knowing about God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 10:2, 3
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. 10:17
Paul again states the universal gospel.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; for whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. 10:12, 13
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. 10:4
I don’t know whether being born into a Christian family makes me a Jew in a spiritual sense or not. While it gives a clear advantage, each of us still needs to take an individual journey to find one’s own faith.
Our faith in God is not a blind faith. It is based upon the knowledge – understanding of the truth. Our faith grows as we gain knowledge from His words that are so readily available. God is near. His words are always within our reach, a clear evidence of his eagerness to be found by us.
I was found by those who sought me not, I became manifest to those who did not ask for me. 10:20
When does the Bible change from being an interesting story to read – something to just snack on to being essential nourishment that is indispensable in sustaining our lives?
When I was a young child, I was scared of darkness and ghosts. So I read my Children’s Bible in bed. After reading a few verses, I didn’t get scared anymore and could fall asleep.
As a grownup, I’m still not immune to the creatures of darkness. Some days, I’m cool, standing tall. Some days, I’m a wreck. Most of the time, somewhere in between.
In whatever state I am in, I reach for the book. After reading only a few verses, light comes on. I get to see everything in the room. No evil creatures? Yes, they are still here. In the closet. Under the bed. Whatever darkness they can find. In the darkest corner of my mind. They are just scared to come out into the light.
