Exodus 34:17 Do not make any idols… Be careful, be careful.

11 Obey what I command you today. … Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you. 13 Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles. 14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

15 “Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.

17 “Do not make any idols.

“Obey what I command you today.”  So God says.  The 1st commandment God gave to Moses to inscribe on/in the stone tablet was “You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3

Yesterday, on our way back from a business trip, my husband and I stopped by at an antique store in West, Texas.  It is one of my favorite places to visit whenever we are traveling south on I 35.  The store offers many beautiful items at a reasonable pricing.  I once bought a gold framed oil painting for $30!

There are a couple of things I don’t like about the store however.  One is strong smell of incense and the other is the fact that they have many items that are occult symbols they sell along with symbols of Christianity such as crosses and miniature churches.  I may not have the courage to smash them (and risk getting arrested), but I can at least write about how it is not okay for Christians to buy them as gifts for others or for themselves.

They may look like symbols of Christianity such as Easter bunnies and colored eggs, but they are not.  They are pagan symbols that have snaked into the Christian church like the apple offered to Snow White by her step mother.

Mixing the truth with falsehood is the number one tactic to snare Christians into disobeying God.  While reading Exodus 34 this morning, I learned again about what God is strongly telling us not to do.

Many people are not aware this.  So just present the information without being puffed up about it.  I didn’t know about it either until someone told me.
