And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 1 John 2:28
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
The world John mentions here is not a place, but as human society with all its godless values. John focuses on three things which characterize the world system. 1. The cravings of sinful man. 2. The lust of his eyes. 3. The boasting of what he has and does. The boasting that is designed to impress others. This is worldliness.
⇒ We shouldn’t have these in us so that we will have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
