My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, then my servants would be fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, my kingdom is not of this realm… For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice. John 18:36-37
Truth – The Hebrew and Greek words for “truth” share a common meaning. A thing is “true” when it corresponds to reality. In the Bible “truth” is no abstract ideal or philosophical concept. God has unveiled in his Word the way things really are and how life is meant to be lived. All that Scripture shows us about ourselves, about relationship with God, and about relationships with others, is a revelation of reality as God knows it.
This kind of truth is a dynamic and freeing thing. Men wander about in a world of illusions, guessing at the nature of the universe and struggling with moral judgments, without knowing which of the many competing philosophies of life is best….
We are to let his words define the issues of life and to act on his words obediently. As we practice God’s words, we come to know truth in a personal way – and to gain all its benefits…. When Jesus speaks of revealing God’s truth, he never speaks of simple possession of information. He speaks of an unveiling of reality, to which we are to commit ourselves by faith. — Richards’ Complete Bible Handbook, Lawrence O Richard
A single event can awaken within us a stranger totally unknown to us. To live is to be slowly born. Antoine de Saint-Exupery
To live in ignorance is not truly living. When things are uncertain, we feel incomplete & lost. Perhaps this is because our minds are predisposed to move in a certain direction to reach a certain destination. Who’s the killer? Gotta find out. So, slow unveiling of truth is so exciting. I got it.
As my beloved author Saint-Exupery said, I want to tie myself to a tree that is bigger than myself. A tree of life that grows and grows.
Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again. When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree. Antoine de Saint-Exupery
